Jeans. Denim. Pants. Trousers. A closet is never complete without them. Everyone has at least a pair of jeans somewhere in their wardrobe, and with good reason: jeans have always been the go-to piece of clothing. They’re easy to wear, and they go with almost everything. But surprisingly, jeans shopping is not as easy as picking a top that goes with your trusty denims. On the contrary: if we’re all honest with ourselves, we will come to realize that a pair of jeans that fit as well as they should almost nothing short of elusive – and this especially holds true for women.
When picking the right pair of jeans, a bunch of factors come into play, some being (a) your body shape; (b) the cut of the jeans; (c) the fabric; and (d) the color.
Despite what billboards may lead you to believe, it’s not just the size-zero supermodels who can rock a pair with perfection and style. The key is pretty basic: flaunt your assets, subdue the flaws, and pick the right silhouette.
The Shorty
What we want for the vertically challenged is to look elongated. Choose straight leg jeans or, better yet, go with vertical details to make an even taller illusion. Keep away from flares, they will just make you look smaller. Another option is to pick a pair of regular to high-rise jeans, that augment that can make your legs look longer.
The Towering Legs
We want to compliment that asset of having long legs. A pair of cropped trousers is perfect to accentuate the length. You can opt to wear tight jeans but not too tight. Another choice is to look for a straight cut for a simpler, more laid-back look.
The Big Thighs
We want to reduce the imperfections this time. A good way to hide larger thighs is to wear boot cut jeans. Tight denims will only make thighs look wider.
However, don’t go for jeans that are too loose; they will only make you look shorter.
In addition, low-rise bands can greatly compliment your figure. Also, take advantage of the benefits of picking the right color: pants of a darker shade will always make your legs seem slimmer.
The Wide Hips
A secret to covering wide hips is to choose pants with low-rise bands. Pick a straight leg pair that falls from the hips to create longer-looking legs.
The Bootylicious
Work that booty by wearing skinny or tight jeans to emphasize your asset. If you’re leaning more on the conservative side, you may want to try wearing black straight cut jeans in order to disguise that prominent behind.
The Skinny
Having thin legs is not that bad as long as you know how to pick the right kind of clothes to wear. If you want your legs to have a bit more curve, put skinny jeans at the top of the list. If you don’t mind showing off a thinner look, then cropped trousers is not bad a choice.

Aside from your body type, there are plenty of other things to consider before looking for the right pair for you – one being color. It’s best when you know which ones work for you and which ones don’t. As mentioned, dark colored jeans – black, brown, dark blue – are your best options because of their ability to give a slimming illusion. If your intention is to appear larger, light-colored jeans such as white and lighter shades of blue are for you.
